It all started with an idea. In the 1980s, in response to growing unemployment in the area, the Westgate Baptist Community Church started a local response program to help teach computer skills to job seekers. Since then, WCIG has grown into an independent organisation with a long, proud history of delivering innovative, quality services that reflect the needs of the community.

WCIG has an independent board and is committed to serving the community by addressing issues related to trauma, drug and alcohol abuse, homelessness, and mental health. Today, WCIG is a not-for-profit organisation empowering people to meet their goals and reach their potential. They provide assistance to the non-physically disadvantaged in regard to employment and training, providing practical resources to help people find meaningful employment, increase independence and live more fulfilling lives. WCIG supports thousands of people across inner urban Melbourne to make real changes in their lives.

Primarily funded by the Federal Government they work together with a large network of community organisations, allied health services, employers, community groups, businesses and government to stay in touch with the needs of the people they support and evolve their programs to reflect this.

💛 Values in action

In carrying out their day-to-day work, WCIG management and staff aspire to their organisational values:

🚀 Future Growth

They have ambitious future plans, which include the significant acquisition of a consortium partner called JobCo. This acquisition will expand their reach, enabling them to deliver Disability Employment Services (DES) from Melbourne to the Peninsula by the end of the month.

Due to WCIG’s unique offering of providing quality services matched with commercial accountability they have been successful in securing new Government contracts since Graham’s appointment. They have experienced considerable growth over the past two years, now employing approximately 220 dedicated staff members.
